New/Prospective Members Welcome

Updated: Feb 23, 2023

We at Hunter United Brewers enjoy meeting up to discuss all things beer. We meet the 3rd Thursday of every month at various venues around Newcastle. You can find out where we will be meeting by either checking out our Events Page, or getting in contact with us. Please come and join us! Members usually start arriving from 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start. There are meals available at the venue.

Each meeting is structured around three main sections:

1. Club Business/News

First section of the meeting is usually presented by the club president outlining up-coming events, updates on club activities etc. This is the formal 'business' section of the monthly meeting.

2. Tech Talk or Style Appreciation

Alternating bi-monthly a member of the club or external person will present a tech talk to the club on a brewing topic. These tech talks will also be documented and placed on our website for members to refer to at a later date.

When not having a tech talk, we hold style appreciation through the BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) style guide. The club purchases samples from styles (focusing on a single or close grouping of styles in a session) so that we can all talk about the characteristics about the specific styles. How they are similar and how they are different. During these sessions we are also able to call on some of our experienced BJCP certified members to help guide these sessions.

3. Homebrew Feedback

During these sessions we aim to provide constructive feedback on member's homebrewed beverages. This is totally optional and done in an 'opt in' manner. When you are starting out, sometimes you know that something isn't quite right, but you can't always put your finger on what it is. And, perhaps more importantly, what you might do to try and avoid it in future batches. These sessions can be a great opportunity for less experienced brewers/tasters to taste alongside more experienced brewers/tasters and learn about the craft of brewing.

We encourage members to bring along samples of their beers to share with the club but you don't have to if you don't want to.

If this sounds like something you want to get involved in, please send us an email
